Visaka Home for sexually abused Girls, Embilipitiya
The 'Visaka’ Home was established to provide a safe home for sexually abused girls, following court directions and who are below the age of 18. This is the only home its nature managed by a Buddhist organization in Sri Lanka while all other homes of this kind managed by other religious organizations. The Home is affiliated to the Department of Probation and Child Care Services.
We counsel, rehabilitate, develop their self-confidence and help them in the delivery of their children in a safe and secure environment and ensure a good future for their new born child. It was observed that these children’s lives were ruined mainly due to poverty, broken families, death of parents, mothers’ gone abroad for employment, fathers’ addicted to drugs or liquor, lack of parents’ education to give proper care and protection to their children and negligence etc. Dishonesty, merciless and vicious acts of adults victimize these young girls mostly between the ages of 10 to 18 years.
At this Home, we provide loving care under the house-mother / matron and the supporting staff ensuring medical care, education, child care training and training in various skills’ and opportunities to develop a sustainable income for their future after they leave the Home.
Due to the said brutal acts, the victimized young girls naturally grow up with anger, hatred, disgust and destructive mental conditions. This critical mental situation can only be changed through methodical and home based counseling programmes, which would definitely be more effective for them to face their future in a positive way. By experiencing these benefits, Visaka Home is a gift for the Sri Lankan society. Due to the increasing demand for the services in the area, it has become necessary to expand the Home.
