Bodhiraja Vocational Training Center, Embilipitiya
A project under the Vocational Training Authority in Sri Lanka that provides four (4) vocational training courses in IT, cookery, carpentry and dress making upto the certificate level of NVQ 4.
The Centre targets, students who were unable to succeed through the local school general examinations but possess different skills with no opportunities to practice them. Consequently such unskilled youth who would otherwise be unemployed / unemployable are sent out into society with a guarantee of a job following their training at the Centre. This project assists school-leavers to acquire technical skills and computer knowledge for employment. The computer center also conducts classes for children and adults to keep them upto date with the needs of a globalized world.
The necessity for such service was seen in 1971 and 1988 by the President of Bodhiraja Foundation due to the problem of youth unrest (civil unrest in society) which was a serious issue in southern parts of the Sri Lanka, during these particular years. Therefore, the Bodhiraja Vocational Training Center provides immeasurable services to the youth in the areas to overcome existing barriers in finding jobs and equips them with their skills and educational qualifications.
