Drunk, a pilot tries to take off with 274 passengers

The robbery could have turned into a tragedy. Drunk, a Pilot of SriLankan Airlines attempted to take control of an Airbus A330, with no less than 274 passengers on board.

The incident, which took place on 19 August at Frankfurt airport, was reported on Sunday by the German media. The flight was scheduled to fly to the German city of Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital.

“Unavailability”

The crew members got on the man’s way before he was arrested by airport police. The man has since been suspended, according to German media.

The passengers had to spend an additional 15 hours in Germany, time for the company to find a replacement for the pilot. Sri Lankan Airlines has apologised for the delay on its website, citing simply “the unavailability of a crew member.”
